The National Joint Industrial Council (NJIC) has commenced the review of the NJIC Minimum Standards for Nigerian Seafarers covering the 2025–2027 period. The meeting is taking place at the Board Room of NIMASA, No. 4 Burma Road, Apapa, Lagos, bringing together key stakeholders across the maritime labour and regulatory space.
The review session is focused on strengthening existing provisions to reflect current industry realities, global best practices, and emerging compliance requirements. Discussions are centered on seafarers’ welfare, remuneration benchmarks, conditions of service, dispute resolution mechanisms, and alignment with international maritime labour standards.
The Association of Manning and Crewing Agents of Nigeria (AMCAN) is actively participating in the process, represented by its President. AMCAN’s involvement underscores its commitment to ensuring that the interests of licensed manning and crewing agents are properly reflected in the revised framework, while also promoting fair, competitive, and sustainable standards for Nigerian seafarers.
